A Sophisticated Retreat

Before Nicholsons began the design and landscaping, this garden was overlooked by new development housing and was in desperate need of upgrading and updating. The owner wanted to create an atmosphere of contemporary calm sophistication with an inward looking, almost meditative, perspective.

Layers of boundary screening have been created through the use of evergreen panel trees, ornamental pear trees, and clipped yew hedging. This provides the backdrop for the central focus of the garden – a perfectly square (slightly elevated) lawn, and a mosaic tiled feature wall with a water fountain providing movement and interest.

A contemporary stone dining and lounge terrace offers a great viewing point, or alternatively you can relax on a Rosara St Ives bench under the shade of the clipped umbrella trees.

At night the garden is dramatically lit to highlight its design elements, with the movement of water captured in shadow form on the textured surface of the feature wall.
