FENCING & GATES
At Nicholsons, we deliver high-quality fencing solutions as part of larger forestry, landscaping and estate management projects across the UK, supplying and erecting fences and gates for agricultural, construction and commercial applications. Our work is typically integrated into wider schemes – such as woodland creation, agricultural infrastructure and landscape projects – ensuring each installation complements rural landscapes, country estates and commercial land use while delivering long-term durability and performance.
With over 30 years of in-house experience, our team uses up-to-date techniques and specialist machinery to install a full range of fencing, including stock and deer fencing designed to meet the requirements of grant schemes such as Countryside Stewardship and the England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO). Where possible, we source UK-grown timber and utilise high-quality treatments suited to demanding outdoor environments.
While domestic fencing can be included, this is generally as part of a broader project rather than standalone works, and we operate within specific parameters for each fencing type – please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Woodland and Estate Fencing
Estate and Parkland Fencing
We can supply and erect a wide variety of metal fence and gate styles for gardens, estates and parklands. Our work utilises flexible construction and design to suit deer parks, garden areas and level or uneven terrains. Our team will be happy to advise on the most suitable style for your requirements.
Deer Fencing
Generally required as enclosures in woodlands and for new plantations, deer fencing can also be used to enclose deer in parkland situations. Our standard deer fence is 1.8m high, sufficient to prevent access to muntjac, roe and fallow deer using high tensile mesh fencing. Design and installation is tailored to site requirements. We also design and install suitable wooden or metal gates for vehicle and pedestrian access.
Our deer fencing can also be used around solar farms and for the protection of orchards and large gardens.
Forestry and Woodland Fencing
Forestry and Woodland Management is at the heart of our business and this can pose particular challenges of fence installations in rough and steep terrain. Our team will help you select the correct fencing specification, with installation supported by our capable tracked post-driver.
Tree Guards
Anyone who has been around trees long enough has probably seen the damage that can be caused by browsing and the risks that this poses to valuable trees. Large tree guards are often required in parkland and woodland locations to protect against deer, cattle and horses. We can advise and install the most appropriate style for the situation.
Agricultural Fencing
Horse and Equestrian Fencing
Our horse fences are carefully constructed using high-quality materials and ensure safe, strong, low-maintenance surrounds for equestrian areas and enclosures. We offer a range of heights to suit horses of all sizes and ages – our team can help you select the most appropriate design to suit your needs. Creosote treatment is often the main choice of wood preservative for horse fencing as this helps to deter gnawing of the timber. Nicholsons can also design and construct basic horse jumps set into fences for clients.
Stock, Sheep and Cattle Fencing
Fencing for cattle enclosures needs to be particularly strong and durable, as cattle have a tendency to rub against fencing. We offer a range of high quality, strong, low maintenance fences, specifically designed for keeping cattle enclosed.
Rabbit Fencing
Rabbits can be a persistent problem to gardeners and landowners in many areas. We offer a range of rabbit fence styles to help secure your property and can advise and construct to meet your requirements. This often needs to be incorporated with other fencing types – such as Stock or Deer – or even retrofitted to existing fencelines. For added protection, we advise digging in the rabbit net and can offer this as part of our service.
Types of Fencing
Traditional Post and Rail Fencing
Our attractive post and rail fencing can be specified as square sawn, half round peeled / machine rounded posts and rails.
Cleft Hardwood Fencing
For a more traditional look, we supply and install cleft chestnut or oak fencing, which can be made even more stock proof with the addition of netting and/or rabbit wire.
Close-board / Panel Fencing / Chain Link
More fitting in the urban environment, our team are very experienced in designing and installing close-board, panel or chain link fencing. We can offer a range of styles, heights, gates, finishes and materials to suit scope and budget.
Gates
We supply and install all types of gates to match our fence installations and can offer a design service for a wide range of gate styles.
