The Yurt

The Yurt at Nicholsons provides simple and surprising delights under canvas in our tree nursery in North Aston. We bring fresh and local ingredients to your plate with honest cuisine; a real celebration of food. We offer a tasteful selection of organic, fresh, and local food in the form of breakfasts, sharing platters and light lunches designed to leave you feeling energised for the rest of the day.

For years, we have wanted to be able to offer our lovely customers hospitality as they shop for plants. We often find that coffee and cake is exactly what you need when making an important decision about trees.

The Yurt

About the Yurt

Yurts have been a distinctive feature of life in Central Asia for at least three thousand years. In some of those cultures, the word ‘Yurt’ simply means ‘Home’. Yurts were used by nomads to move their homes with the grazing – we like this relationship of man with land and following the freshest food.

Our Yurt was handmade in Devon, hewn from skilfully steam bent ash timbers, sanded by craftsmen and treated with rich oils for longevity. Our Yurt has a fleece lining for winter and tough cotton canvas to keep out the British weather all year round.

About Our Food

We love the great outdoors and are very excited to bring you our Yurt food offering under canvas. As a family, we celebrate British food: from field grown salad leaves, homegrown beef and lamb to berries from the hedgerows, our kitchen is driven by the ever-changing seasons and, accordingly, our menu changes as new crops become available.

Our aim is to offer simple and excellent food, such as, plates of smoked salmon dressed with fresh leaves picked at dawn, followed by local ice-cream. We have a bolstering breakfast menu to kick-start your day. Perhaps local mushrooms served on a home-baked bread, swilled down with a characterful cup of mellow coffee?
