Introducing Frankie and Her Delicious Mother’s Day Cakes
Introducing the culinary talent behind the cakes of Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day at The Yurt: Frankie Michelini. Enjoyed by so many customers, these beautiful creations come from a mind inspired by art and European culture.
Like fellow chef Enrico, Frankie’s cooking journey began in Italy with her family, where her grandmother was a significant influence. “My education gave me a lot of inspiration too – studying art and comics has given me a powerful imagination. I also like to watch the best French pastry chefs at work, as it gives me the motivation to create something similar.” However, Frankie still believes in the cooking style of her grandmother: “Even if it isn’t perfect, it needs to be tasty. Cooking should always be about thinking of someone else, otherwise it is only preparing for a meal. My grandmother also used to say to me, ‘Don’t measure, use the feeling’, but that may not be the way to go for beginners!” Frankie’s tip for beginner bakers is to use eggs at room temperature, and always sift the flour. More tips like these will be revealed in one of Frankie’s recipes, to be released soon.
Following on from the success of Frankie’s Valentine’s cakes, she is now treating us to a whole new batch of delicious cakes to help us celebrate Mother’s Day. Once again, we are continuing to raise money for a charity tree nursery and forestry programme in the Masai Mara. The Ol Meoshi primary school is part of that community and it is struggling to make ends meet during Covid. With 600 pupils on roll, each walking up to 5kms to reach school, we would like to support the children by funding their lunches. 100% of the income from our special Mother’s Day cakes will go towards this cause, with a third of the students already supported by the proceeds from our Valentine’s promotion. One box will pay for one child for the whole year. Of course, if you don’t want to eat cake but would like to support our friends, then we would be very grateful for any charitable donations!
View the cakes below and order yours by emailing us at email@example.com. Orders will then be collected from the Yurt on Saturday 13th March between 10am and 2pm.
